Harpun – “Lovesong:Ratking”

/

Swedish act Harpun show an inventive rock sound throughout newly released 5-track EP Neanderthal, which includes the track “Lovesong:Ratking.” Harpun feature four drummers, two guitarists, and a church organist, making for an arsenal that stands out on its own. The consuming songwriting adds to the feel, with “Lovesong:Ratking” developing from a galloping bass line into an enjoyably frantic rock epic. The final section features punk-friendly vocals amidst the escalating tempo of the guitars and rhythm section, wrapping this up on a caffeinated high. The self-titled EP opener is also recommended.

The Swedish collective is comprised of 24 and 25-year-olds, featuring members from Tove Lo, La Lusid, Doojiman & The Exploders, among others. They write: “Even though the music has a punk rock approach, we want the music to be limitless and try to fuse genres and ideas all over the place and don’t hold strict rules on how it is supposed to be. As long they are strong Songs albeit unusual!”

“Lovesong:Ratking” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2019’ Spotify playlist.
