Premiere: Great Wave – “Sorry, Darling”

/

Gorgeously awash in guitar-based textures amidst hypnotic rhythms and serene vocals, “Sorry, Darling” is a stunning track from Great Wave, a band from Scranton, PA. The “don’t be sorry,” hook features gorgeous, yearning vocal tones with an ominous, descending tonal shift toward its bookend. In the final minute, clamoring percussion — reminiscent of Radiohead’s material — intensifies over the textural evolution to conclude in memorable form. This and preceding track “Garlic & Sage” show a band with heaps of talent and atmospheric ability, touting a confident and unique sound heavy on textures in the dream-pop and shoegaze veins. Here’s to a big 2020 for Great Wave.

“Sorry, Darling” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2019’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Shoegaze / Post-Punk / Dream-Pop.
