Kafar Myers – “True 2 Self”

/

Kafar Myers dropped his album Self Privilege last month, showing a melodic hip-hop sound with shining production. The album touts a variety of quality tracks, starting superbly with “Luxury.” Intense vocals are paired with theatrical piano and vibrant strings, building to a confident hook with a melodic “wish I knew,” vocal backing. “Luxury” is a great opener.

My favorite album cut is “True 2 Self,” which features a soulful beat propelled by majestic strings. Kendrick Lamar is an obvious point of comparison, considering the entrancing lead, backing wordless soulful vocal, and string-leading beat. The “I like my enemies,” lyric is accompanied by a graceful woodwind, further adding to the track’s consuming and melodic production. “True 2 Self” is an excellent showcase of Kafar Myers’ talents. This is an artist that’s quick on the rise for good reason.

“True 2 Self” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Indie Hip-Hop.
