Sulkin’ Raven – “Oxygen”

/

“Oxygen” is a track released today from Sulkin’ Raven, showing a synthwave aesthetic with guitar additions. “I made a lot of the sounds using a repurposed sound card from an original Nintendo as well as a couple of gameboys,” the artist says. “It also features lofi and chiptune influences.”

Just past the one-minute mark, the ominous synth pad and trickling guitars and accompanied by a ghostly wordless vocal backing. Synth fragments emerge around 01:32, helping gear up a climactic feel that carries well past the two-minute mark. “Oxygen” sounds admirably at points like a darker Hot Chip, in terms of production. The chirping synths counteract well with the brooding vocal presence and soaring synth pad. “Oxygen” shows the engrossing atmospheric and melodic chops of Sulkin’ Raven. Look for the track’s music video to release shortly.

“Oxygen” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2020’ Spotify playlist.
