Jason Malan – “Always On My Mind”

“Always On My Mind” is a fluidly melodic track from Jason Malan, an artist from the Netherlands. Beginnings led by a pulsing rhythm section, stirring vocals, and key-laden overlaps build to a satisfying chorus around 01:22. Malan repeats “you’re always on my mind,” with suave gratification as synths escalate with vigor, followed by trickling guitars. The artist describes this splendid track as “about a post break-up phase where my mind was still in denial, hopeful, obsessive, repetitive and nostalgic… anything but facing the reality of the situation.” Effectively capturing yearning emotions alongside a strongly building mode of production, “Always On My Mind” is a success from Malan.

“Composing and producing this song ended up being very therapeutic and was a great help in accepting the situation I was in at the time,” Malan continues. “As well as being a good bonding experience with the vocalist whom is a good friend at the moment but at the time of production still quite a fresh classmate in my studies sound engineering and music production!”

“Always On My Mind” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Electronic.
