Tourists – “Smokescreen”

//

Riding on twangy guitars alongside a rhythm section conjuring post-punk nostalgia, “Smokescreen” is a stellar new track from Tourists. The Torquay-based five-piece’s latest single comes from their forthcoming debut album Another State, releasing later this year and mixed by producer Daniel Schlett (The War on Drugs, DIIV, Here We Go Magic). The track takes off memorably around 01:20, when a punchier vocal turn alongside ’80s-friendly guitar tones brings forth a memorable melodic hook. The band’s adept cohesion of dream-pop, post-punk, and alt-rock makes for a convincing aesthetic. Another State is certainly a forthcoming album I’ll be anticipating.

“Smokescreen” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
