Lady Moon & The Eclipse – “Relationship”

/

“Relationship” is a striking track from Lady Moon & The Eclipse, whose newly released album Journey to the Cosmic Soul presents a gripping, eclectic style. Soul, funk, and R&B merge with spacey atmospheric appeal, also touching on rock, jam music, and Afro-beat. These sounds remain cohesive in their presentation, thanks to stellar performance, production, and songwriting. “Relationship” is among the album’s many highlights and certainly a testament to its aesthetic and melodic strengths.

The track engages from the get-go, with punchy vocals and a funky rhythm section leading to key-tinged effervescence around the 45-second mark. The lyrical comparisons of relationships to naturally occurring ebbs and flows is stimulating throughout, with a particularly standout moment being the “you may fight,” vocal escalation alongside the glistening keys. The two-minute mark and beyond showcases the band’s captivating atmospheric prowess, with a psych-friendly, spacey allure led by emotive vocals, a more contemplative rhythm section, and eerily effective synths. “Relationship” is a track with fantastic production and ample substance, an example of what to anticipate throughout the excellent Journey to the Cosmic Soul.

“Relationship” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2020’ Spotify playlist.
