Better Animal – “IDWK (Leave My Mind)”

“IDWK (Leave My Mind)” is a hooky success from Better Animal, the collaboration of Alex Thompson and Josh White. A bright burst of synths appear initially, giving way to a bassy reverberation amidst laid-back vocals. Pulsating synths emerge again just prior to the hook’s sudden emergence. “I don’t wanna know where you’re going in the middle of the night,” the vocals burst here, alongside shards of guitars and dreamy synth tones — the type of hook that sticks in your head well after replay. “IDWK (Leave My Mind)” is an excellent start for this promising project.

Blurb on the track below, giving more background:

“IDWK (Leave My Mind) is a song celebrating the moment when you let go of people from a past life. Alex and Josh were both coming out of negative long term creative relationships, and this song came from their first attempt to create something new in hopes to move on and let go. Better Animal is a representation of the metamorphosis that occurs when you start to focus on yourself and let go of the expectations others have imposed on you.”

“IDWK (Leave My Mind)” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2020’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Pop.
