Kelly Schenk – “Amy”

/

“Amy” shows stellar songwriting and an alluring, evolving sound, ranging from folk-friendly intimacy to expansive orchestral sweeps. Portland, OR-based composer and vocalist Kelly Schenk touts captivating songwriting throughout, with an abundance of clever melodic shifts in folk and sophisti-pop veins. The backing string adornments during the emotive “I wanna know,” vocal refrain play excellently. Similarly, the piano work combine recurrently with strings in chilling fashion around 02:45, also enchanting. “Amy” is a thorough success from Kelly Schenk.

“I wrote this song about the first woman I dated,” Schenk says. “Having come out as queer/bisexual, everything felt new and exciting and there was a sort of dreaminess about being with her. At the same time, I wasn’t sure she liked me back. “Amy” is a contemporary and folky pop song that captures the innocence, nervousness, coming-of-age-ness, exhilaration, and excitement of my first romantic relationship with a woman.”

“Amy” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of October 2020’ Spotify playlist.
