KID LAB RAT – “My Blackened Heart”

/

Infusing grunge with a hip-hop flow, “My Blackened Heart” is nicely exemplary of KID LAB RAT‘s unique stylistic fervor. The Melbourne-based artist deftly balances dark rock and traditional hip-hop throughout new album More Sad Songs. “My Blackened Heart” rides on a murky beauty, reminiscent of Linkin Park. “My pulse is beating slow,” the vocals linger into a more texturally dense assortment of rhythms and keys. The project of Dylan James, KID LAB RAT seamlessly shifts between stylistic conventions, while still retaining a consuming melodic flow throughout the duration of “My Blackened Heart.” More successful stylistic synergy is apparent throughout More Sad Songs, streaming below.

“My Blackened Heart” and other memorable tracks from July can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2020’ Spotify playlist.
