Schmarzkopf – “Playground”

//

Psych-rock project Schmarzkopf show a riveting sound throughout new track “Playground.” The Belgian five-piece comprise members with eclectic musical backgrounds, ranging from metal to funk. Naturally, one can anticipate a fair share of structural/stylistic twists and turns. “Playground” does not disappoint in that regard, especially with a Latin rock influence that emerges as the track progresses further. A suave psych-rock disposition with a wavering synth backing propels a satisfying first section, transforming considerably by the track’s mid-point. Twangy guitars at 01:47 also remind fondly of Television. The outro is especially consuming, with psych-friendly guitars and escalating bass showing off the track’s Latin rock influence especially proudly. “Playground” is a creative psych-rock treat from Schmarzkopf.

“Playground” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2020’ Spotify playlist.
