Scott Stevenson – “Maelstrom”

//

Brisbane-based artist Scott Stevenson shows a wholly unique soundscape throughout “Maelstrom,” his latest track. Ghostly piano and industrial bass tones construct a haunting feel to start. Percussive additions arrive alongside nocturnal vocal samples, pitch-distorted in a way fondly reminiscent of Burial and dark dubstep. Bustling, intermingling piano and bass-y stabs lead to an expansive second half, where a jazzy progression becomes whole with rippling piano effects and creeping feedback. “Maelstrom” leaves a strong impression, injecting an otherworldly sort of haunting throughout.

“Maelstrom” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of November 2020’ Spotify playlist.
