Pat Absent – “Nothing”

Reminding me fondly of The Psychedelic Furs, “Nothing” is a track from Richmond, VA-based musician Pat Absent, off the new album Tangible Absence. Weary vocals and jangly guitars craft a climatic, murky feeling to start. Added guitar distortion and muddled vocals thereafter converge with twinkling keys for a wholly effective soundscape, seamlessly traversing into the familiar verses following. “Nothing” is nicely representative of the creative songwriting and stylistic showing throughout the album, ranging from the synth-laden shimmering of “August Weather” to more rock-forward fervor like “Nostalgia.”
