SONI – “Savage” (ft. Izzy Austin)

/

Previously impressing with the tracks “Happy to Serve” and “Dance With Me,” California-based artist SONI shows well again with the track “Savage,” featuring Izzy Austin. SONI’s convergence of soul, R&B, and pop succeeds again here — led by a popping bass, eerie synth pads, and vibrant vocals. Heartrending strings follow shortly thereafter, combining with tender guitars for an emotive effect as the vocals take a reprieve. Confident, self-righteous lyrics and flourishing vocals add well throughout, especially upon the “she’s savage,” hook. The bluesy vocal escalation to close this one off is especially convincing.

Look out for SONI’s 3-song EP, via London’s Buttercuts Records.

“Bail Me Out” and other memorable tracks from September can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2020’ Spotify playlist.
