Babi – “Orchid Hunter”

//

If you have experienced Nintendo’s Pikmin video game franchise, Babi‘s “Orchid Hunter” may sound quite familiar. For one, the game’s unique soundtrack is widely acclaimed for its soundscapes, fond of lush synth-y soundscapes with symphonic, neo-classical charm — which “Orchid Hunter” also possesses. Additionally, Babi actually participated in the soundtrack for Pikmin 3 Deluxe, duetting with Pikmin for Olimar’s Side Stories — so the likeness is certainly warranted. Piano and wind instruments join around Babi’s perky vocals, evolving with melodic, sweeping charm amidst the various orchestral movements, all vibrant and buoyant. The Japanese artist continues to impress since releasing her first album in 2011, steadily rising since being nominated for Ryuichi Sakamoto’s ‘RADIO SAKAMOTO’ show in 2009.

Babi writes the following:

“One day, I found the book “A Man Fascinated by Orchids – The Amazing World of Orchid Collectors” at the library. My love and attraction for Orchids these few years led me to this book.In the book, there was a story of noblemen sending hunters into the jungle or wetland to collect rare Orchid and a story of how they even killed each other along the way to obtain an Orchid but would wither them on the ship their way home. Wrote by Babi.”

“Orchid Hunter” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2021’ Spotify playlist.
