Dawning – “Bloom”

/

Showing a stylish mix of glistening synth-pop and dark R&B, “Bloom” is a new track from Dawning, the project of Aaron Senor, an artist based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The initial sound is darkly atmospheric and in an R&B vein, reminding fondly of Toro y Moi. The ensuing, pulsating chorus rides with a hooky effervescence. Following the three-minute mark, a striking transition takes hold, with a lusher and more yearning disposition amidst clanging piano and string-laden backing. “Bloom” succeeds with its atmospheric, melodic pull and share of structural twists and turns.

The track comes via Dawning’s new EP, Petals.

“Bloom” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2021’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream-Pop.
