Someone/Anyone – “Turning on Each Other”

/

A creative whirlwind from Someone/Anyone, featuring multiple vocalists and bustling brass/synth interplay, “Turning on Each Other” is a standout release. The synth fragments and “will I ever be free,” vocal refrain gives into a bass-y sequence that reminds fondly of Yves Tumor. The pulsing, intense sound throughout, with jazzy segments, succeeds in its riveting aesthetic. “They want us turning on our brothers, won’t give them what they want” and other lines flaunt feelings of perseverance, along with the “gotta love one another,” punctuation. The lyrical positivity contrasts enjoyably with murky, industrial tones with aspects of free-jazz and electronica. “Turning on Each Other” is a stellar track from Someone/Anyone.

“Turning on Each Other” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2021’ Spotify playlist.
