The Rungs – “Not In Love”

/

“Not In Love” is another dreamy pop success from Brooklyn-based project The Rungs, impressing previously with tracks like “King of Books” and “Right Rooms.” Achieving a soundscape that will sound lovably familiar to fans of acts like TOPS and Chromatics, “Not In Love” develops from swelling synths and flourishing vocals, assuming a peppier disposition after the initial foray. The driven bass and added synth sparkles past the one-minute mark cast an effervescent spell, the track enamoring with a hooky melodic pull and lush atmospheric disposition throughout.

The Rungs explain more about the track:

“This is a song about the difficult moments when you don’t know how to break it to someone that you aren’t in love with them. Maybe it’s a partner who you’ve just grown apart from, or a new friend that you can sense is falling in love with you. How do you break it to them knowing that it’s going to cause them pain? In this sense it’s a song for the sentimental heart breakers.”

“Not In Love” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2021’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Dream-Pop.
