Tongg – “Popular Music”

/

The twinkling “Popular Music” comes from Tongg, a trio based in Nottingham, England. The third single from their recent album Karate In The Dark, “Popular Music” expands from twinkling quaintness into chirpy guitar pulsations and melodic vocal turns. The vocal outpouring at 01:30, followed by a vibrant guitar sequence reminiscent of Queen, makes for an especially entrancing series of events. A minute thereafter, the “dirty little monster,” expansion stresses the project’s knack for creative twists, the halted guitars and vocal sample meshing with piano and backing choir. “Popular Music” engages with clever songwriting throughout.

“Popular Music” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of April 2021’ Spotify playlist.
