Moon Sand Land – “New Matters”

//

“New Matters” is a satisfying track from Moon Sand Land, the project of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jason Ross. The initial verses engage easily; clockwork-like percussion and guitar swipes mesh enjoyably with suave vocals and an warm organ-laden backing. The “don’t wait,” vocal line coincides with a guitar-based rise that excites, aesthetically reminding of Spoon. A slight touch of synths in the background is involved in the subsequent verses, adding beautifully to the soundscape. “New Matters” excels with its melodic songwriting and structural momentum.

More on the track below:

“Blurring the lines between past lives and future realities, ‘New Matters’ explores the reflective state that paralyzes us all. With a smooth simmering sound, this song encapsulates midnight moments trapped in thought. Despite being written during the pandemic, this song transcends the current circumstances and represents the larger definition of isolation. From late-August anxiety to mid-winter depression, this song portrays the continuing absence from reality throughout the seasons.”

“New Matters” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2021’ Spotify playlist.
