Cal in Red – “Act Like”

Flowing melodically with lush vocals and synth/guitar interplay, “Act Like” is a memorable track from Cal in Red, a duo of brothers from Grand Rapids, MI. The track’s magnetic chorus — “act like no one knows,” — features bouncy synths and expressive vocals, hooking easily. Jangly guitars approaching the two-minute mark play with a delightful allure, the twinkling reflective keys adding charm alongside the vocals. The track’s production shines throughout, with an even assortment of guitars, synths, and hook-friendly vocal cues.

The track’s vocalist, Kendall, elaborates more on the release: “In the lyrics I’m asking for something; anything in way of effort. Trying to tell someone that their thoughts/worries are seen, they’re valid, but at the same time you gotta give me something here. Can’t just keep throwing the game out. A little spark and emotions is all I’m after, I know it’s in there.”

The duo plan to release their first EP this fall.

“Act Like” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2021’ Spotify playlist.
