6ridges – “Howl”

/

An emotive track with a ghostly mystique, “Howl” comes from Singapore-based artist 6ridges. The vocals emit a delicate yearning, complemented by gradually escalating piano. Layers of subtly reflective backing vocals add to the haunting production. The rise past the one-minute mark combines synths and an expressive croon for a striking aesthetic, tonally like a convergence of James Blake, Wild Beasts, and The Weeknd. Elegant piano during the “night sky, so cold,” lyrical atmospherics precede a club-friendly synth stomp — the string-laden accompaniments and rousing cinematic percussion adding to the majestic conclusion. I’m looking forward to hearing what’s next from 6ridges.

“Howl” and other memorable tracks from this month can also be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2021’ Spotify playlist.
