Scotty Karate – “Always Honey”

/

Showing a chugging rock sound with laid-back guitars set against expressive vocals, “Always Honey” comes from Scotty Karate‘s new album, also titled Always Honey. The Michigan-based singer/songwriter shows his eclectic reach throughout the release, fusing country, punk, and rock. “I only thought you would be my always honey, I got the wrong kind of love,” Karate sings with a suave, sort of bittersweet satisfaction. The bluesy guitar fervor and minimalist percussive backbone plays with an apt rawness to the vocal presence. From rockers like “Always Honey” and “SSMM” to efforts like the folk-forward “Ruby Red” and “Gone It,” Scotty Karate’s newest album impresses with enjoyable variety.

As an aside, Dark Horse Brewery named a beer after Scotty Karate, and it’s definitely recommended (especially if you dig scotch ales)!
