Zerrin – “Sleepless”

/

Released today from Australian artist Zerrin, “Sleepless” is a track with ample art-pop mystique. The “can I be you,” vocal expression with mingling keys, in particular, lends a fully haunting feel reminiscent of Kate Bush. The track’s structure sprawls with ambition, successfully interweaving art-pop and dream-pop elements. The initial sparseness and understated vocals evolve considerably, never ceasing in doing so with theatrical guitar feedback, string-laden pushes, and expressive vocal rises throughout. “Sleepless” is a track that never dulls.

The track comes via Zerrin’s debut EP, Consolations, which was self-recorded and produced. The Sydney-born artist is presently based in Glasgow, and describes the track as “about trying to figure out who you are and what you want from life ~ and the swirling anxieties of youth that keep you up at night.”
