Former Lives – “Alderson Loop”

//

A term popularized by the show Mr. Robot, an “Alderson loop” refers to “a seemingly endless loop in programming where an exit condition is available but inaccessible in the current implementation of the code.” Former Lives, the project led by Sean Joseph Klassen, explores the concept with savvy on the new track “Alderson Loop,” its themes reflecting Klassen’s experiences following a traumatic brain injury. Aesthetically, the track touts a dreamy vein of synth-infused rock, abundant with hooky allure — reminiscent overall of Last Dinosaurs. Frolicking guitar jangles amidst a steady percussive pulse leads into hazy vocals and twinkling key additions, texturally and melodically consuming throughout.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2022’ Spotify playlist.
