Venus Blake – “Tragedy”

Touting a dark pop allure fronted by passionate vocals, “Tragedy” is a track from Venus Blake, via her new album The Other Side of Midnight. The release consumes with its ardent vocal presence and piano-driven production; tracks like “Love we Lost” and “Chocolate Morphine” compare fondly to Kate Bush with their chilly soundscapes and unique vocal stylings. “Tragedy” is also enjoyably representative of the artist’s songwriting and vocal talents. The “you’re my tragedy,” refrain proves memorable amidst passionate vocals and piano. The creeping verses build cohesively to the impassioned rise — “anything to stop the pain,” — with the absence of percussion serving to highlight the fierce vocals and piano.
