Don’t Connect – “Dead Ideas” (feat. Flyboy Jetty)

/

London-based collective Don’t Connect strut an infectious sound throughout the new track “Dead Ideas,” in collaboration with Flyboy Jetty. The opening refrain — “can’t get you out of my head,” — is apt; the track’s woozy synths and bass-y crawl converges with perky vocals and accompanying trumpet stabs for a fully immersive effect. Guitar-laden verses find sped-up vocals exuding a fun suaveness, driving cohesively to the memorable hook. Thanks to its strong melodic pull and stellar production, I could see “Dead Ideas” being the song of the summer.

“Dead Ideas” represents the first single, and title track, from Don’t Connect’s forthcoming debut album. The record company Flying Vinyl are printing and selling 1000 copies of the track towards the summer.

The track’s inspiration arose from the prospect of yet another unfinished idea. “For a very long time I thought I would never finish this one and it would just become another dead idea,” Don’t Connect’s songwriter Charlie explains. “Ever since Tom [Flyboy Jetty] recorded his vocals for the hook, I knew I was going to finish it because I really couldn’t get it out of my head. The off-beat trumpet stabs are inspired by old jazz tracks.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2022’ Spotify playlist.
