Hyooman – “Month End”

A delectably dazed psych-rocker, “Month End” is a new single from Minneapolis-based band Hyooman. Twangy guitars and reflective bass are joined by playfully psychedelic keys to start, as the calming vocals incorporate seamlessly. The “timing is everything,” and “profit is everything,” escalations drive engagingly to thicker guitar-laden reverberations. The final minute pursues a largely instrumental direction (beyond a momentary backing vocal line), admirably highlighting the track’s fully hypnotic arsenal that impresses in its own right, bolstered even further by the serenely entrancing vocal lead. “Month End” has me fully anticipating Hyooman’s forthcoming album.

“Month End” represents the second single from Hyooman’s upcoming album, slated to release early this year.

The track also released with a music video, illustrated and animated by Andrew Tomten, streaming below:

Songwriter/vocalist/guitarist Leng Moua elaborates more on the track below:

““Month End” refers to the deadlines and demands that usually occur at the end of the month. The song is a caricature of a boss or authority figure who explains what it takes to succeed and make money. I wrote the song out of frustration with the demands that jobs and society make on people in disregard of their wellbeing. It’s an environment that rarely sees people and only looks at numbers and figures.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Psychedelic Rock.
