Seven Layer Piano Cakes – “Remy”

A peppy single that incorporates power-pop infection with surf-y vocal harmonizing, “Remy” is a stellar track from Los Angeles-based project Seven Layer Piano Cakes. Beginning with solemn Wurlitzer and evolving into rock-forward passion by its conclusion, “Remy” is on a continuous structural rise; the momentum is consuming throughout, as is the culmination into Brian Wilson-inspired vocal harmonizing. Various vocal layers round the one-minute mark amidst excitable guitar lines, fading into lusher initial territory thereafter before accelerating into a passionate conclusion. “Remy” is a successful release that hops along several rock and pop-forward genres with ease.

Thematically, the artist describes the track as “about my young son and the pain I feel when I am not able to be with him.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2022’ Spotify playlist.
