North Atlantic Explorers – “Dreams of Flying”

/

A stirring track North Atlantic Explorers‘ latest album, Night Owls, “Dreams of Flying” is enjoyably representative of the release’s consuming aesthetic. Alongside a new music video with a space travel theme, “Dreams of Flying” develops from an intimate beauty; a piano-based lushness and spacey synth pad complement lyrics portraying a journey through the clouds. The backing vocals emit a lovely sophisti-pop feeling, reminiscent of Prefab Sprout. The second half drives into a psych-friendly dazzling with organs and guitars entering the mix. “Dreams of Flying” captures the band’s affinity for atmospheric shimmering.

Touting an atmospheric blend of beauty and sadness throughout, bolstered further by the trumpet work of JP Carter (Destroyer), Night Owls takes inspiration from Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds in its choral harmonies and orchestral flourishes. The Vancouver-based group, led by Glenn D’Cruze, regards the album title as “a reflection of D’Cruze’s solitary and nocturnal nature, and his affinity for the tranquility and mystery of the pre-dawn hours.”
