Perry – “Maximize”

/

Maximize, the new album from Perry, presents a stimulating sound ranging from funky charisma to smooth, laid-back jazz. The project of Max Clemmons Jr., Perry crafts a nostalgic sound with groove-friendly allure. The artist describes the sound as “a synthesis of musical forms that I enjoy which I define as kind of Neo-Retro.”

The eight tracks on Maximize each strut their own character and personality. The self-titled effort is suave yet excitable, the backing key-laden shimmers and funky pulsations joining with shimmering string effects and minimalist percussion. Elsewhere, “Dinner Table” infuses woodwinds and vocal-laden excitement, touting an enchanted feeling with its twinkling keys. Other standouts include the smooth sax-bolstered “Criss Cross” and bouncy opener “Do You.”
