Present Company – “This Time”

/

Minneapolis-based rockers Present Company strut an anthemic post-punk sound on “This Time,” a track illustrating how “the slow decay of a long-term relationship can inspire confusing thoughts and feelings about love.” A sturdy post-punk aesthetic establishes from the get-go; a bustling bass, playful percussion, and synth-laden haunts complement an understated vocal nonchalance. “We don’t have any fun anymore,” the vocals remark, launching thereafter into a captivating rise with a commanding vocal presence. The passionate “sometimes I just want you to find me,” yearning continues the gripping escalation, into the “gonna make it this time,” refrain, which plays with particular infection. “This Time” is a consuming post-punk anthem from Present Company, touting both effervescent hookiness and signature brooding.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2022’ Spotify playlist.
