Skinny Dippers – “Wedding Ring”

/

“Wedding Ring” is the latest track from Brooklyn-based project Skinny Dippers, fronted by singer/songwriter Ryan Gross. Expanding from gentle twangy introspection and beach-set musings into rock-forward fervency, the track captivates with its melodic songwriting and escalating structure. The rousing chorus — “we tried to hide under the blankets when our friends came in,” — adds a crunchy guitar-based warmness amidst the playful twangs; the added intensity here contrasts enjoyably from the verses, while remaining relatively laid-back. A more raucously enjoyable guitar tone emerges in the final minute, injecting further passion and eclectic tonal charm into this success from Skinny Dippers.

“Wedding Ring” represents the second single from the band’s debut album, The Town & The City, releasing this summer. Gross’ neighbors, Jordan Dunn-Pilz and Dan Alvarez, collaborated on the album; they are members of the previously featured band TOLEDO.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
