The Snowman Band – “Hoo Doo”

/

An homage to New Orleans, “Hoo Doo” is the lively debut single from The Snowman Band, a jazz fusion act led by songwriter and saxophonist Brian “Snowman” Powers. Featuring legendary jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter, “Hoo Doo” exemplifies the project’s unique jazz-driven soundscape, casting a nocturnal allure with pulsing bass, expressive saxophones, and an enchanting song structure. In terms of feeling, the instrumentation reminds fondly of ska act Madness.

Hunter’s scorching guitar work excels past the two-minute mark, gearing into a saxophone-fronted sequence thereafter. The roaring rise around 03:20 kickstarts an exciting production with ample tonal variety, flashing between chugging bass-laden emphasis and brassy abundance. “Hoo Doo” is an exciting success from The Snowman Band, whose new album releases in May.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of March 2022’ Spotify playlist.
