A yearning, murky slice of dreamy pop, “Grapefruit” is a new single from airhockey, their first since 2020’s debut EP. Nocturnal synth tones whisper into a bouncy bass accompaniment, followed thereafter by mellow vocals and jangly guitar additions. The gradually added guitar twangs and escalating vocals craft a climactic pull, all within a wholly dreamy aesthetic, fondly reminiscent of The Radio Dept.’s sound. “Grapefruit” presents a consuming, melodic lushness throughout.
