Dzasko – “Like This” (feat. Elodie Gervaise)

//

Dzasko struts a captivating sound immersed in psych-rock guitars and excitable synths throughout “Like This,” the first single from his upcoming EP, Auguries of Innocence.

Peruvian-based producer and composer Diego Zevallos is the artist behind the project. Utilizing early music software while growing up “as a way to cope with his desire of being in a band,” Zevallos’ fascination with programming instruments evolved into music of his own; the electronic and dance music within Lima’s music scene also played a role. Dzasko has since relocated to Los Angeles, and continues to excel with his music creation, as indicated by “Like This.”

“Like This” rides seamlessly on the deeply hypnotic rhythm section, murky guitar tones, and fervent synth excitement. Elodie Gervaise’s laid-back vocals provide an illuminating contrast, maintaining a sense of calm and cohesion even as the synths escalate and rhythm section intensifies.

Dzasko elaborates more on the track’s inspirations:

“This song is about waking up to the feeling that life is constantly moving on and it will go on without you, if you just stay still. Sadly the day I’ve started writing the song I’ve found out my ex-girlfriend passed away. A feeling of inconclusiveness filled the room and inspired me to work on music as a way to think on something else for a while. The main idea came during that evening with my 1984 Yamaha DX7 synthesizer.”

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of May 2022’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Rock.
