Restless Mosaic – ‘Made By Thawing Ice’

//

Immersing with experimental takes on electronica and key-driven compositions, Made By Thawing Ice is a newly released album from Seattle-based musician and producer Restless Mosaic. Following the praise of 2021 debut album There’s Much Left to Explore, Restless Mosaic continues refining his atmospheric, unpredictable sound. The album finds the project incorporating vocal collaborations, adding further to the textural charms.

The brainchild of Brandon Terrell Isleib, Restless Mosaic presents ample soundscapes and structural direction throughout Made By Thawing Ice. “Gedenkwald” thoroughly intrigues with its swampy murmuring effect and chiming key resonance, offering up an atmosphere entirely of its own.

Elsewhere, “Flawed Soteriology” reminds of Boards of Canada in its icy piano trickles and chilly synth pads. The track is enjoyably indicative of both the project’s stirring songwriting and standout production. The vocal additions, specifically Dear Kristin’s ardent performance on the funky “Multicam Behavioral Health,” play convincingly throughout as well.
