Los Angeles-based musician and filmmaker Kowloon impresses with the laid-back, psych-friendly single “Today.” Following up last year’s full-length, Come Over, “Today” delights with its hazy rhythm guitars, understated percussion, and serene vocal lead.
“I’ve been waiting for the sun to rise, I’ve been waiting here all day,” he sings during the inviting hook, punctuated by twangy guitar-forward enthusiasm. The sporadic guitar twangs bridge the subdued verses and rising chorus with a seamless charm. “Today” plays like an effortlessly nostalgic charmer, marking a surefire success from Kowloon.
