Moontwin – “With The Birds”

/

“With The Birds” is a consuming, stylish new track from Moontwin, the duo of singer-songwriter Maple Bee (aka Melanie Garside) and Zac Kuzmanov (founder of alternative radio station XRaydio). Jazzy rhythms, gentle piano, and spoken-word suaveness assemble for an intoxicating production. Ongoing virtual collaborations between the two members, based in Cornwall (UK) and Plovdiv (Bulgaria), have proven fruitful; last year’s debut album, Moon TV, drew critical acclaim, as have previous singles.

Garside’s vocals ascend from spoken-word narration into orchestral-laden singing, brought on by weeping strings and textural glistening. Aesthetically, the production reminds fondly of Pulp, circa and We Love Life. Shades of dark guitars adorn the subsequent verses, the “dreamers’ curse,” vocal re-emerging as an enjoyably shifting mechanism. “With The Birds” is an intriguing, compelling success from Moontwin.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of June 2022’ Spotify playlist.
