The calming, jangly “Mocean” is a captivating track from Nashville-based artist Jack Landess. An upcoming EP consisting of five singles, including “Mocean,” is about Landess’ first semester at Belmont University. “Each song is symbolic of what occurred each month,” Landess says. “In this case, ‘Mocean’ takes place in August; I was super nervous about making friends and leaving everything I knew.”

Quaint guitars develop seamlessly into a caressing series of jangly layering. Landess’ vocals enter at little more than a whisper, helping to highlight the consuming soundscape constructed via the lush guitars and hypnotic percussion. “I don’t wanna you see you go,” Landess lets out, driving to another twangy guitar adornment. An illuminated synth arpeggio lulls into further crisp guitars in the track’s conclusion, putting a satisfying bow on a stellar track.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of July 2022’ Spotify playlist.
