Out today from Jackson Watson, “Eye Candy” is a lush and hooky success. The artist — who was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama — impresses with a swooning pop sound, integrating dream-pop and R&B engrossment on this tale of island-set new love.

The track’s lyrical focus — telling of falling in love with someone on an island — plays aptly amidst the playful synth tones and hazy guitar tones. The “to me, you’re just so stunning,” vocal confessions play engagingly, complemented enjoyably by fuzzy synth tones with a nostalgic pop demeanor. The drive to the two-minute turn is particularly consuming, culminating in an added synth-forward glistening that adds well to the doting lyrics.

Watson drew praise for his full-length debut album, Kaleidoscope, released in 2021. He is presently prepping his sophomore album, Numb, which is set to be released on October 21st. “Eye Candy” represents a single from the new album.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of August 2022’ Spotify playlist.
