nothhingspecial – “If I could I would”

“If I could I would” is a new track from nothhingspecial, an artist from Bonn, Germany. Chrissie, the singer/songwriter behind the project, kickstarted their love for music at age 12. Their sister shared acts like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, and La Dispute, providing ideal audible angst for a new teenager, and a source of inspiration for latter musical pursuits.

Twenty One Pilots were, and remain, a prominent artistic inspiration for Chrissie, as well. “They were known for encouraging other people to transform their own feelings and thoughts into something new, to create something new and make sense of it,” Chrissie says.

“So, as a 14-year-old, pretty insecure and disoriented person, I sat down at my keyboard and started writing my first instrumental. At that moment, it just “clicked” and I felt something that I had never felt like that before. It felt like my body was flooded from the inside with sun rays and goosebumps at the same time. It was one of the most precious moments of my life and a sign to me that I absolutely had to keep doing this.”

The musical motivation continued from there; Chrissie learned bass, guitar, and drums — in addition to honing their vocal and production abilities. “Since then, I’ve discovered something I’m obsessed with. Something that is incredibly fulfilling and drives me, and something I can’t do without.” “If I could I would” is a testament to that spirit, touting a gorgeous escalation with jangly guitars and reflective bass into the memorable title-referencing hook.
