Pierce Alexander – “Midnight Walk”

Charleston-based artist Pierce Alexander impresses with his new single “Midnight Walk,” his first release since the debut album The Minutehand, released in February.

The track’s themes resonate with Alexander’s knack for envisioning particularly resonating scenarios, even from a hypothetical view. “I have a fascination with putting myself in other people’s shoes and coming up with these semi-fictional stories,” Alexander says. “It sometimes gets so intense that I start to feel like I really am going through the scenarios.”

The meshing of gliding acoustics and twangy adornments complement a retrospective vocal delivery. The track’s lyrical center — “I say too much and I apologize again / It feels like I don’t know you anymore,” — is complemented by a somber tonal reflection, as the “like I did before,” punctuation seeing lush acoustics converge as the track mounts a more rock-forward guitar front thereafter. The verses’ reflective retellings and the chorus’ dramatic melodic pull combine for a riveting listen throughout.

This track and others featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of September 2022’ Spotify playlist.
