Sequel Films – “Iridescent”

/

“Iridescent” is a magnetically lush single from Brighton-based artist Sequel Films, who describes the track as “about anxiety and having to deal with the stress of going out when you are an introvert.” The project of Adam Hailstone, Sequel Films presents a dream-pop sound that compels with an easy-going yet emotively relatable assurance. The track follows up the artist’s debut EP, From the Top Floor.

The track’s initial evolution into glistening guitar jangles, from a serene rhythmic introduction, reminds fondly of Wild Nothing’s dreamy aesthetic. Hailstone’s mellow vocals glide cohesively into an atmospheric turn, with starry-eyed synths and yearning vocals dazzling past the one-minute turn. The “fluorescent light,” vocal hook captivates with an effervescent, nostalgic charm — bolstered further by fuzzy gauziness in the final minute. “Iridescent” is an ethereal dream-pop success from Sequel Films.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of December 2022’ Spotify playlist.
