Cameron Sonnier – “Sunshine”

//

Houston-based artist Cameron Sonnier crafts an intriguing intertwining of dreamy folk and rock on “Sunshine,” the first single from his debut album, Tunnels. Recorded in Philadelphia with Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, Nothing, The War on Drugs, etc), the track’s atmospheric production compels with its mysterious yet soaring qualities.

The initial showing of steady acoustics and reflective percussion lends a familiar folk feeling. The nocturnal synth presence and suave vocals shift to a dreamier rock spectrum, with the “I know I’m not the only one,” remark consuming with its twangy guitar adornments. The “in the sunshine,” chorus resonates with a triumphant sort of quality, rejoicing in shimmering hope in the midst of dark wonder. Engaging with its lyrical perspectives on “covering the ups/downs of life,” alongside a dreamy folk/rock blend, “Sunshine” is a thorough success from Cameron Sonnier.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of January 2023’ Spotify playlist.
