Ari Carter – “Luck 4 Beginners”

Escalating from understated jangly pop into a passionately soulful tour-de-force, “Luck 4 Beginners” is a track from Ari Carter, a power-trio based in New Orleans. Fronted by the talented songwriting of Ari Kirkman, the band’s “Luck 4 Beginners” represents the first single and title from their forthcoming LP. In the track’s reflection on trauma and enduring, they note that it “recalls the doldrums of the early Covid-19 pandemic.

A lyrical yearning for connection pairs with hazy guitar twangs and suave vocals to start. Musings about the “hardest part of the dream,” lead a subtly effective melodic shift at the one-minute mark, traversing back into the verses thereafter here — and in the finale, launching into off into a gorgeous, soul-inclined vocal outpouring that closes the track with wholly satiating appeal. “Luck 4 Beginners” is a standout success from Ari Carter.
