Asha – “Kiss Me Tender”

/

“Kiss Me Tender” is a new single from Asha, a Los Angeles-based artist whose hooky pop sound is propelled by funk and disco influences. The track releases alongside a stylish music video. “I stumbled upon this church space downtown and thought, this looks goth, I love it!” Asha says. “I thought it was a funny juxtaposition of this dark gothic church stuff going on with this very light and airy funk track.”

“I want you to kiss me tender,” the inviting vocals enamor, with a plucky bass line driving into funk-tinged guitars alongside hints to “take it slow.” The initial “kiss me tender,” line is enhanced by playful guitars and percussion thereafter, emphasizing the yearning with expansive, infectious qualities.

“For ‘Kiss Me Tender,’ I was in a place where I wanted to make something fun, something light hearted because I am known for writing a lot of sad girl songs,” Asha says. “On this album I have plenty of those songs but I also wanted to balance that and get back to making music that just feels good. I have been listening to a lot of disco and funk songs since Covid, I think they helped me through that dark period. This song is a culmination of a lot of funky listening for the better part of 2 years.”

Asha has self-released a few EPs and albums, and is looking forward to releasing her new album, Magic, later this year.

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.
