Bending Grid dazzles with a charismatic ’80s nostalgia on new single “Retrowave Marionette.” Thematically representing “the control and provocation received from a narcissistic partner,” the track hooks easily with its plucky bass line, twinkling synths, and steadily escalating vocals (courtesy of Alexis Dimitriou, from Lost in Wonderland). “You set it up,” the vocals begin during the hooky chorus, with synths, guitars, and rhythms melding infectiously. The central hook lingers enjoyably, with its ample nostalgia and resonating lyrics reflecting the pitfalls of being “played like a fool” by a narcissist.
