Julia Logue – “Fort”

/

“Fort” is a soulfully entrancing single from Portland-based singer/songwriter Julie Logue, whose sound meshes R&B, neo-soul, and pop with smoothly memorable results. “Building up a fort,” her vocals let out, passionately exuding the walls people can put around themselves. “Once you look around you realize all your walls were paper thin.” The initially understated instrumentation, propelled by jazzy keys, finds accompaniment in the throbbing drums and bouncing bass — traversing throughout alongside Logue’s spirited vocal passion.

“‘Fort’ is about the walls we create around ourselves for some sense of protection,” Logue explains. “I wrote ‘Fort’ during a very dark period in my life when I could feel myself pushing everyone away. It was in the breaking down of those walls, letting my support systems help me, and trusting my higher self, that I could move out of that dark time.”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.

The track is also featured in the genre-based, best-of Spotify compilation Emerging Indie Soul.
