Montauk Hotel – “Dive (Come Afloat)”

/

A welcome back for Dublin-based act Montauk Hotel, in releasing their first track since 2019, “Dive (Come Afloat)” is a jangly, lush charmer that explores “friendship, insecurity and feelings of homecoming in a motionless town.” The band first caught our ears in 2017, with the ’80s rock nostalgia of “Sense of Place,” and continue to shine with a similar throwback composure with “Dive (Come Afloat).”

Crisp guitar jangles and ethereal vocals lead an approachable, resonating sound — straddling modern dream-pop mellowness with the harmonious ’80s pop nostalgia echoed in prior tracks like “Sense of Place.” A more vibrant guitar line emerges prior to the two-minute mark, as the vocals fade and emphasize this atmospheric shimmering. It’s fantastic that Montauk Hotel are back at it, and I look forward to continued successes like “Dive (Come Afloat).”

This and other tracks featured this month can be streamed on the updating Obscure Sound’s ‘Best of February 2023’ Spotify playlist.
